How much is the postage and shipping?
If you order 3 or more items and have them delivered in the UK, the postage is free.
Postage Rates & Shipping Charges are calculated automatically and are shown below. PLEASE NOTE that following the BREXIT deal, we no longer ship to countries outside of the U.K. All customers must have a U.K. shipping address.

Who should I make the cheque out to?
Cheques should be made payable to “Max Hooley”.
What do all the Acronyms mean?
LP – Long Play vinyl record usually plays at 33 rpm
DLP – double LP
45 – 45 rpm vinyl single, usually 7 inch
12 – 12 inch vinyl single, usually plays at 45 rpm, but some are 33 rpm
10 – 10 inch vinyl record, usually plays at 45 rpm
EP – Extended play 45 rpm vinyl record
Box – A box set usually containing more than two records
P/S – picture sleeve. The vinyl is housed within a picture sleeve.
P/D – picture disc
Inner sleeve – Usually a coloured or picture inner sleeve, not a plain white one
tri-centre – triangular centre
What do the Record Gradings mean?
Each record is individually graded and where appropriate, the cover is graded first followed by the vinyl. Therefore EX / M indicates Excellent cover / Mint vinyl.
45 rpm Singles without Picture Sleeves (P/S) are shown with one grade, for example EX. This reflects the grade of the vinyl. Wherever possible these singles will have a generic sleeve and if not, then a new plain white or black sleeve will be supplied.
M – Mint
The grade M is not used on covers.
The record is in brand new condition.
NM – Near Mint
The grade NM is not used on covers.
A faint detection the record has been played.
EX – Excellent
The cover has slight wear or creasing.
The record shows signs of having been played.
VG – Very Good
The cover has been subjected to normal wear and tear.
The record has been played many times or has several marks on the surface.
G – Good
The cover has not been cared for and may have spine splits and scuffed edges etc.
The sound quality has deteriorated due to playing so much.
F – Fair
The cover will be torn or defaced.
The record is just playable, but may jump.
P – Poor
The cover will be badly damaged.
The record is only of use as a collection filler.
Checkout and Payment
If you are happy with an item, click on the ‘add to cart’ button. This will automatically take you to your shopping cart. To continue shopping, click on the ‘continue shopping’ button or click on the ‘checkout’ button if you are ready to make your purchase. If you decide you do not want to buy a particular item, you can click the dustbin image on the right hand side. This item will be removed from your shopping cart.
On clicking the checkout button, you can choose to have your customer details remembered by selecting the appropriate option button. You will be asked to complete your personal details for the purpose of payment processing and delivery. Some fields are obligatory and others optional. This can speed up future purchases from our site.
You will next be asked to choose your preferred payment method. It doesn’t matter if you do not have a PayPal account, you can pay using your debit or credit card. For this you have to click the “PayPal” option at checkout. This will enable you to make payment with your card, without the need to create a PayPal account. If you wish to pay by cheque or other methods, use the Cheque / Money order option and send it to the address shown. Cheques should be made payable to “Max Hooley”. We can accept cheques drawn on a UK bank, postal orders and cash in Sterling and Euros. (Please note that if cash is to be sent, then for your own security, please send by Royal Mail Special Delivery or International Signed-For).
I do not have a PayPal account, but still wish to buy!
It doesn’t matter if you do not have a PayPal account, you can pay using your debit or credit card. For this you have to click the “PayPal” option at checkout. This will enable you to make payment with your card, without the need to create a PayPal account.
How are the records packaged and how long before dispatch?
Each item is carefully cleaned, returned to its sleeve and placed in a clean polythene cover together with a letter detailing the transaction. It is then placed in a robust professional mailing envelope before posting. Fragile markers are used and the return address is also shown in case of non-delivery and the need to return to sender.
How long does it take you to dispatch my order?
We aim to dispatch all orders within 2-4 days of payment. Sometimes it is even sooner.
What is your Returns Policy?
We are happy to offer a ‘no quibble refund’ to customers returning purchases to us, in the condition in which they were sent, within 14 days of purchase. Items must be returned within the original packaging, complete with the polythene protective sleeve and stiffeners. Please let us know via the ‘contact’ page if you are intending to return goods or if you have a query about this. Customer satisfaction is of the utmost importance to us!
Do you sell CDs and Cassettes?
We are a specialist seller of vinyl records and as such do not sell CDs, Cassettes or DVDs.
Would you be interested in buying my record collection?
If you would like to sell your collection please note that we will only consider those that we can personally inspect. For practical reasons, we regret that this means that we can only consider collections that can be viewed in Somerset, Dorset or Devon unless you own an exceptionally rare recording. It may be possible to bring the collection to us. This must be by prior arrangement only. Please do contact us if this is the case.
How extensive is your stock?
Our stock levels currently sit at around 25,000 different titles. When we sell a record, it is removed from the website immediately and we may never get another copy of that item, or we may get another in shortly. As all our stock comes from pre-owned private collections we never know what will turn up, and when! This means if you want a record it would be wise to buy it; once it is gone, it really is gone!
Can I come and browse through your stock?
Sorry, this just isn’t possible. Our stock is all carefully catalogued and stored in our warehouse and not displayed for sale. We really are an online store only. However, you do have the luxury of browsing from your armchair at your own convenience 24/7.
How do I leave a Testimonial?
